Markets & Walking Streets

Markets are the heartbeat of Chiang Mai — part dinner, part theatre, part souvenir hunt. Here are the ones worth planning your week around, and when to catch them.

Sunday Walking Street

Our favourite

Chiang Mai's most-loved market takes over the main street of the Old City every Sunday evening — handmade crafts, local art, live music and some of the best street food in town. It begins just a short walk from both our homes, so you can simply follow the crowd. Come hungry and come early; it gets shoulder-to-shoulder after dark.

Saturday Walking Street (Wualai)

The Saturday counterpart runs down Wualai Road, the historic silversmiths’ quarter just south of the Old City. A touch more local than Sunday’s market, with beautiful silverwork, handicrafts and a brilliant food section.

Warorot Market (Kad Luang)

The real working market of Chiang Mai — floors of dried foods, Northern Thai snacks, textiles, spices and flowers. This is where locals actually shop. Pick up some sai ua (herby sausage) and nam prik to take home.

Jing Jai Market

A weekend farmers’ and makers’ market with an organic, design-led feel — fresh produce, specialty coffee, vintage finds and a lovely brunch scene under the trees. The Rustic Market section is especially good for crafts.

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

The long-running nightly market east of the Old City. More tourist-oriented — souvenirs and massage stalls — but fun for an evening wander, with food courts and the occasional gem.

Ton Lamyai Flower Market

A fragrant, photogenic flower market that never really closes — busiest before dawn. Marigold garlands, orchids and roses by the armful, right next to Warorot.

Tip: The walking streets only run on their set evenings, so it's worth timing your stay to catch at least one. If your dates miss both, Warorot and the Night Bazaar are open every day.
